25 MSc and 7 PhD graduate from ACE-DS at UR 2025 graduation ceremony
The University of Rwanda (UR) held its grand 11th Graduation Ceremony on 17th October 2025 at the UR Huye Campus, celebrating the achievements of more than 9,500 graduates from various disciplines.
Among them were 25 Master’s and 7 PhD graduates from the African Centre of Excellence in Data Science (ACEDS), a major milestone reflecting the Centre’s continued contribution to Rwanda’s data-driven development and research excellence.
The graduates specialized in different domains of data science, including Data Mining, Econometrics, Biostatistics, Demography and Actuarial Science, reinforcing ACEDS’s mission to build advanced analytical capacity across Africa.
Sharing their experiences, the PhD graduates reflected on the journey that demanded perseverance, resilience, and a passion for discovery.
“My PhD journey was a long and challenging path that spanned nearly six years, filled with moments of doubt, persistence, and growth. Balancing rigorous research demands with personal and professional responsibilities often tested my resilience,” said Dr. Theogene Rizinde, one of the PhD graduates.
“This journey was both challenging and rewarding. I look forward to applying my knowledge and skills to advance the field and make a positive impact. I am eager to continue contributing to the academic and professional community through innovative research and collaboration,” added Dr. Angelique Dukunde, another PhD graduate.
The 2025 UR Graduation Ceremony not only marked an academic milestone but also underscored the growing impact of the African Centres of Excellence in fostering high-level research, innovation, and skills development in Africa.
Through ACE-DS, Rwanda continues to strengthen its position as a regional hub for data science education and research, preparing experts capable of addressing real-world challenges using data-driven solutions.
Congratulations to all the graduates for their remarkable achievements and contributions to advancing data science in Rwanda and beyond.
