Eight PhDs, Thirty -seven master’s students from ACEDS graduate
The University of Rwanda held its 10th Graduation ceremony, a momentous occasion, on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Huye Campus Stadium. The event celebrated a total of 8,068 graduates (3,109 female and 4,959 male) who received degrees ranging from Diplomas to PhDs.
Among the graduates, 6,657 were awarded Bachelor’s Degrees, while 946 received Master’s Degrees. Additionally, 148 students earned Diplomas, and 247 were conferred Advanced Diplomas. Three students were awarded Postgraduate Diplomas, 1 received a Postgraduate Certificate, and 13 were granted Subspecialty Certificates.
Among them, 8 PhDs and 37 Masters were from The African Centre of Excellence in Data Science (ACEDS).
In his keynote speech, Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente commended the graduates’ efforts and determination throughout their academic journey, which culminated in this celebratory day. He urged them to go out, serve the nation and make a meaningful impact that would positively transform lives within their communities.
“Today, my message to you, dear graduates, and to the Rwandan youth in general, is to uphold the values of patriotism and integrity,” Ngirente noted.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Kayihura Muganga Didas highlighted that the graduation marks a significant milestone in the University of Rwanda’s history, particularly the award of 53 PhD degrees, an increase from the 33 awarded last year.
He also expressed gratitude to the academic staff for their dedication and invaluable support to the 8,068 graduates. According to him, they have nurtured students’ talents, challenged their perspectives, and ignited their passions.
“Thank you for your unwavering commitment to academic excellence, service delivery, and your role in shaping the next generation of leaders,” said Prof. Kayihura, while also lauding the encouragement and sacrifices of parents, which played an integral role in the journey to today’s joy and accomplishment.
The graduation also included 126 international students from 24 countries, including Burundi, Cameroon, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Chad, Uganda, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
